Which main route is your principal applicant on?
The dependant pathway runs the same way for most main routes, but the qualifying-period maths and the English/Life-in-the-UK requirements differ for some. Pick the one that matches your principal applicant's visa.
We never ask the principal's name, sponsor, or any identifier — only their categorical status. Same privacy posture as the rest of the calculator.
Work-route principal
Skilled Worker, Health and Care Worker, Global Talent, or Innovator Founder. 5-year qualifying period for the dependant.
10-year Long Residence principal
Your principal qualifies on continuous 10 years of UK residence. The 10-year minimum applies to your dependant time too.
Refugee or Humanitarian Protection principal
Your principal holds refugee status or HP. You inherit their English + Life in the UK exemptions; 5-year qualifying period.
Spouse / partner of a British or settled person?
That's the main Appendix FM route, not a dependant pathway. You ARE the principal applicant.
