Why this matters
For most UK visa routes, including ILR, you must not be outside the UK for more than 180 days in any rolling 12-month period during your qualifying period. Some routes also have lifetime caps.
Excludable reasons (serious illness, employer-required overseas assignment, conflict, research/fieldwork) can lift the cap, but you need to evidence them. The full ILR readiness check covers this.
